Wednesday, June 17, 2015 | 12:00PM – 1:00PM CDT
Cleaning endoscopes can be tricky. Learn about the most current recommendations from the FDA and guidance from manufacturers on the proper care and handling techniques to help avoid the risk of infection.
In the last two years, there have been a number of high profile carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) exposures associated with endoscopy procedures. This session will define CRE and it’s the current epidemiology in the United States. A review of the history of endoscopes and their structure, functionality and surgical use will be starting points, leading to insight on the proper care and handling of endoscopes to prevent the transmission of infectious disease. To support this, current FDA and manufacturers’ recommendations for the appropriate care and handling of flexible endoscopy scopes will also be covered.
1. What is CRE and its current epidemiology?
2. Why are endoscopes a source for CRE exposure?
3. What are some key interventions
